Amsterdam Entertainment Guide

Whatever the weather, Amsterdam sizzles. It's the party capital of Europe, with an amazing roster of live music, arts festivals, cutting-edge theater and film programs to excite even the most jaded culture vulture.

Pathe Tuschinski Amsterdam

Originally built in 1921 by a Polish Jewish immigrant, this art deco cinema is a fantastic building and is situated between the Rembrandt and Muntplein. In 1998 a full restoration of the building commenced, which has resulted in the closure of some of the more decrepit theaters and the modernization of the better ones. The main theater now has 800 luxurious seats and there is a VIP balcony where champagne is served.
The building contains Asian influences, while the lobby was designed in a way to offer theatergoers the feeling that they are stepping into an illusion. The Tuschinski’s main auditorium has served as both a movie theater and a live performance space since its opening. In addition to a film screen, it also contains a stage and an organ.

The architect of the building was Adolf Leonard van Gendt who was inspired by the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, built two years earlier (and destroyed in 1943).
Today, some 900 concerts and other events per year take place in the Concertgebouw, for a public of over 700,000, making it one of the most-visited concert halls in the world.
